Our personal data can be found in numerous public online spaces. While we may be aware of the methods to review and delete our data from social media profiles or search engines like Google, we often overlook checking our property’s listings on websites such as Redfin, Zillow, or Realtor.com.
Although the chances of someone extracting sensitive information like billing details from these platforms are low, they can still pose a risk in terms of identity theft, scams, or even stalking. These sites can be exploited by individuals seeking to verify your address and gain access to information about your property, both its interior and exterior. Fortunately, you have the option to remove photos of your home from property listing websites like Realtor.com, Redfin, and Zillow. Taking this step can help safeguard your personal information or that of your tenants.
To remove listing photos and update information about your property, you must first claim ownership of the home on each respective website. The process for verifying ownership varies slightly on each platform, but it is straightforward. Here are the steps to get started:
Realtor.com:
- Sign in to your Realtor.com account (or create a new one).
- Go to the “My Home” tab and use the search bar to look up your address.
- Select “Yes, Claim it.”
Redfin:
- Sign in to your Redfin account.
- Go to the Owner dashboard.
- Look up your property’s address and select “Claim Your Home.”
Zillow:
- Sign in to your Zillow account.
- Click on your account name and choose “Your Home.”
- Select “Add Home” and enter your property’s address.
- Click “Verify your ownership.”
Follow the specific steps for each website where your home is listed. Generally, this involves answering a few questions and providing accurate information.
Once you have been verified as the property’s owner, you can proceed to remove photos and edit the listing’s information. Here’s what you need to do:

- Log into your Realtor.com account.
- Go to “My Home” > “Owner dashboard.”
- Select “Owner View” in the upper right corner.
- Scroll down and choose “Edit Home Facts” and then “Remove Photos.”
